A Christmas Update from the Manager

I am delighted to announce the signing of centre-half Dan Dean, who I have been interested in for some time. I have known Dan for a few years and it didn’t take much effort for me to get my man after I was free to approach him. With him knowing Jon Boswell and Mu Maan well from their time together at Leatherhead it was an easy decision for him to move from Chipstead. We have got a very good defender who reads the game well, is good in the air and a commanding presence. We have been somewhat light in this position for a few weeks now and Dan’s signing will bring plenty of competition to the heart of the defence.

We have also signed Mo Maan, a goalkeeper from Walton Casuals. Mo is a highly regarded keeper who has played for both Metropolitan Police and Hendon. He will give competition to Dane Buss, and it was an area we needed to improve on as Dane had no-one ready to pounce into his position. Mo is the brother of Mu, our talented midfielder.

The last of three new signings is Greg Andrews. He is a real talent with an eye for goal, is proven at this level, and I am delighted to have landed him. He had a very successful spell on loan from Leatherhead at Swans two years ago, and has been at Merstham this season.

With fixtures coming thick and fast it was important to strengthen, as I wanted to be prepared for an important period of our season. Coming away from our game at Hastings, where the match was called off after an hour with us trailing 3-1, I said to my assistant Martin that we are not far off where we need to be, as I thought we were the better side for long periods. But we are giving away silly, cheap goals, and at this standard you will get punished. We will be doing all we can to rectify our problems at the back in training, and if we can sort that issue out I think we will be a match for any team in this division.

I will now let this squad settle, and I won’t be making any more additions for the foreseeable future. With both Sonny Ayres and Jake Baxter back fit for the Christmas period it will give me the opportunity to give playing minutes to our squad.

Finally I would like to thank everyone who travelled to Burgess Hill and Hastings, your support is very much appreciated from the team, and I hope we can get a result at my old club, our local rivals Walton Casuals, on Boxing Day. I would like to wish everyone at the club a Happy Christmas and I hope we can stay patient, as I know this side will go on another run shortly.
