Dear Supporters – The Season Starts – Update

Dear Supporters – The Season Starts
Update: John Walton – Thank you (I owe you a beer!!) How could I forget you – Sorry

Already the new season starts on Saturday with our first game away to newly promoted Peacehaven and Telscombe F.C.
The first team squad is taking shape, with new players adding to those happily remaining from last season.

It has certainly been a tough task for Steve, Roy and Jesse to develop a competitive squad within 5 weeks, (I’d hate to see Steve’s July phone bill!).

I feel there is certainly an improvement in the squad with quality and quantity, and the sooner they are settled, gel together and gain confidence the better.

When I first met Steve I soon realised his desire to do well as Walton and Hersham’s Manager and the honour he felt it was for him to represent the club, with a work ethic to match.  Steve will expect every player to feel the same and to give everything in every game for this great, historic club, which obviously matches all our wishes and expectations.

I am sure when he is more settled he will be able to update you, the supporters, via the website and matchday programmes.

It was certainly nice to see the players stay around the clubhouse after the Staines Town match on the 3rd of August, and to see them bonding together. This will happen after all home games, so supporters please stay for a drink after the game and mingle with the players and management.

I have watched the last two friendly games versus our close rivals and friends Staines Town and Ashford Town. I certainly felt the Staines Town game was very good to watch, and it was wonderful to re-ignite the John Livey Memorial Trophy and for Steve Livey to be there to present the trophy. Both clubs agreed that we should maintain this friendly every season, as it is part of both clubs’ history and in honor of John.

The Ashford Town match I thought again was a good game, especially in the first-half when I felt we were good value for our half-time lead. Many changes in the second-half left it difficult to forge an opinion.

We have two new Reserve Team managers, James Cameron and Bobby Barnes. They are working alongside Steve, Roy and Jesse with the remit of bringing players through the team to represent the first team. This is how they will be judged in success. It is a very important part of both the Clubs’ and Steve’s ethos, and I will personally be at all the home games, checking on their development.
I would like to say welcome and wish Bobby and James good luck in this important role at the club

Adam Bessent has already formed an all new youth squad, with players coming from our partnership club Elm Grove Colts.
This season we have players who are mainly under-17s.
This will give the players two years with Adam to develop into semi-professional footballers. The first year will be tough as they will mainly be playing against opponents a year older than them. However, this will put them in good stead and develop them for the future. On Wednesday evening for the friendly match at home to Woking there was a good crowd present, which is fantastic for the future!

We are certainly a more settled football club off the pitch with all our new management structures in place. We are very fortunate that Adam is our first representative for all our new, young players in the youth team, and with Jame’s and Bobby’s experience running reserve teams at this level it will give every reserve player an opportunity to develop through into the first team, where Steve, Roy and Jesse all have the playing and management knowledge at this level of football to drive the club forward. I sincerely wish all our coaches and players the best of luck for this coming season, and I am certainly looking forward to watching all three teams.

Playing Kit
Soon we will be launching our NEW team playing kit. The kit will be our own Walton and Hersham F.C. design. Supporters will be able to pre-order the kit and we hope to get all of this concluded within this month. Watch this space!!

The Club Shop will also be on the website soon in August.

Save Stompond Lane
The football Club is continuing to fight to save Stompond Lane. Alan and Toby are working tirelessly on this.
Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to post any news on the website.  As soon as we can we will.
There will be notices of support required issued, as soon as we know about council meetings we will advise. However this can be at short notice!

Supporters Player 100s Scheme
There is a lot of interest in the scheme, thank you all for those who have taken a sheet.
There are two ways to pay:

  • Cash in an envelope with the slip off the bottom of the sheet with your name and scheme chosen box ticked.
  • Cheque made out to Walton and Hersham Youth F.C. in an envelope with the slip off the bottom of the sheet with your name and scheme chosen box ticked.

Please hand over any envelopes behind the bar at home games. Thank you all again.

Message Board
The committee made a unanimous decision to remove the Message Board from the clubs’ main website. There are numerous reasons for this and I can explain to any supporter in depth in person.
It is very, very important for all officials, players, managers and supporters to follow the football clubs’ Code of Conduct in line with the F.A. The message board and unfortunately some items posted on it did not follow this and how the club wants to progress into being an F.A. Community Club.

Evening Functions – One Club for all

I look forward to seeing you all at as many games as possible, and I hope the information above is useful and of interest.

The football club is run on a part time voluntary basis. Before the season starts I would like to thank all the new committee members for joining, Mr Walton and Hersham Merv especially as always , Mark and Craig , Toby, John C, Mike Groom, Andrew and Ann, Michael and Richard Olds, Bobby, Darren providing match day refreshments and Sandy for already all their efforts before a ball has been officially kicked. I look forward to seeing Jackie back in the boardroom and especially seeing Shirley and Vic relaxing and watching the team play after all their years on the turnstile. Also a thank you to Simon for all his help over the years at youth team nights on the turnstile. I would like to welcome Ann and Bob Burns on the turnstile and 50/50 and thank Tony for marshalling the stand and Paul in the programme stall. Lastly a big thank you should go to Alan Smith who continues to run and support the club, now in very difficult times. If his effort and determination is matched by the players on the pitch we will have a lot to enjoy this season. (I hope I have not missed anyone off, sorry if I have! Drink on me) John Walton – I owe you a drink (How can I forget you!!) So Sorry

All the functions will be successful and fun evenings if supported and above all will generate funds for the club, which is much needed. This is your club, so please support it and represent it with pride.

Any questions please do not hesitate to come and have a chat with me. I will be in attendance at all home games for the first team. I will not be at so many away games because I will be at Stompond Lane supporting and representing the Football Club at the reserve home games.

Up the Swans!
