Thursday 2 August 2012.                                                                       Pre-Season Friendly.

Walton & Hersham 0   Beaconsfield SYCOB 2.

Poor defending from corner-kicks lost Swans their first home friendly against a good side from their own level in the Southern League. The visitors are further into their pre-season, while most of the Swans’ players have only played 90 minutes so far, and it showed.

Josh Bonnett made a clever run on the right before playing the ball inside to Chris Wales, whose low driven cross was just cleared away. The visitors’ keeper then got a weak punch to the Brazilian Eduardo’s free-kick from the left, and Jason Henry’s overhead kick sent the ball wide. With a quarter of an hour played Bonnett got in a fine cross from the right for Dave Lawrence to head over at the far-post.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play after 23 minutes after winning a corner on the left. The ball was allowed to be nodded down, and a back-heel flick beat Swans’ keeper Jake Wincup.

The Beaconsfield keeper had to go down to save when Henry drove in a low shot from 30 yards out on the left, andLawrencehad a shot deflected wide after Henry had made a good run on the right to drive in a low cross.

But after 38 minutes the visitors doubled their lead, and again the goal came from a corner-kick. The kick was played short on the right, and a low shot came in that Wincup could only push away, and he was beaten by a follow-up shot from the left.

The second-half was one of few chances with Swans’ ringing the changes. After a poor start they began to show much improvement as the second-half progressed, bossing the last quarter of the match. But the nearest they came to scoring was with ten minutes remaining, Shaun Elliott’s fine cross from the left being just too high for Graeme Purdy to get in a header at the far-post.
