The Swans travel to face Tiverton Town on Saturday afternoon, as they look to return to winning ways following an action-packed and Storm Bert-influenced 4-4 draw with Gloucester City in their last outing.
It didn’t take long for the drama to start against the Tigers, as just four minutes in their goalkeeper Jared Thompson smashed the ball into his own net, netting arguably one of the most incredible own goals in Non-league history. Dawid Rogalski extended his side’s lead 15 minutes later, with a well struck volley into the bottom corner. The Polish Pele then turned provider when he played Johl Powell through on goal, who struck an emphatic finish past the keeper with his weaker left foot. Mason Obeng added a fourth in quick succession to have the Swans cruising at half-time.
In the second half, a long throw that bounced around in the Swans box allowed Ty Duffus to pull one back for the hosts. With the weather and wind now blowing in their favour, Gloucester kept pushing and it paid off when Kieran Phillips and Joe Hanks netted within minutes of each other to bring it back to 4-3. With two minutes of injury time played, a poor clearance by the Swans’ defence ended with the ball at the feet of Hanks who scored his second to rescue a point for his side.
Tiverton Town currently find themselves one point clear of the relegation zone after a poor start to the season. Despite their disappointing start, Tivvy produced a shock in their most recent outing, as they came away from Basingstoke Town with a 3-1 victory. The Yellows have also been buoyed by the recent arrival of manager Rob Dray, who was notably manager at fellow West Country side Taunton Town for a number of years, winning the Southern League Premier South division in the 2021/22 season.
Billy Rowley will be keen for his side to pick up three points on Saturday, as they look to return to winning ways heading into a busy festive period.
Head-to-head
The Swans met Tiverton Town for the first time last season, coming from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw in Devon, with Trae Cook-Appiah and Eddie Simon getting on the scoresheet. The return fixture saw the Swans pick up a 2-0 win in February of this year, courtesy of goals from Joe Hicks and Nana Owusu.
