The Swans travel to face Marlow on Saturday afternoon for their first return fixture of the 2024-25 campaign. The Swans shared the points in their last outing, snatching a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Dorchester Town in dramatic circumstances at the Xcel Sports Hub.
The opener came in unusual circumstances for the Swans, when Eoin Bolger’s vicious in-swinging corner looped over everyone and into the back of the Dorchester net. Following the interval, the Magpies turned the game on its head quickly, when Jack Dickson scored twice in three minutes to put his side ahead. With the clock ticking down and everyone forward, the Swans launched one last ball into the box. Dawid Rogalski’s initial header from Tom Olyott’s ball in was kept out by the Dorchester keeper, but his opposite number Jos Barker was on hand to head home a dramatic equaliser. Jos’ goal marks the first time a Walton & Hersham goalkeeper has scored since the turn of the millenium, and the first time on record that a Walton & Hersham goalkeeper has ever scored a header.
Marlow have endured a poor season so far, sitting bottom of the league table, seven points adrift from safety. The Blues suffered a hefty 4-0 loss away to Hungerford Town in their last outing, however will be looking to build upon their recent home fortunes, following consecutive home wins over Frome Town and Wimborne Town respectively.
With a number of important games coming up for the Swans, Billy Rowley will be hoping his side can pick up three points against a struggling Marlow side. Dawid Rogalski will be one to watch in the game, as he makes his first return to his old stomping ground since his departure in the summer.
Head-to-head
Having first met in the 1987-88 Isthmian League, the two sides have encountered one another on 12 occasions. The Swans have won seven, with Marlow being victorious in just two games. Walton & Hersham beat Marlow 3-0 earlier in the season, and will be looking to complete a league double over the Blues on Saturday afternoon. The Swans’ last trip to the Alfred Davis Memorial Stadium in August 2022 saw them lose an action-packed game 4-3, with Dawid Rogalski netting a hat-trick for Marlow on a scorching hot afternoon.
