The Swans travel to local rivals Chertsey Town this evening for a rescheduled local derby, having secured a dramatic 3-2 win at Havant & Waterlooville last time out.
Continuing their recent trend of scoring early on, the Swans took the lead inside ten minutes when Dawid Rogalski struck a fine effort into the back of the net. It didn’t take long for the hosts to hit back however as Ryan Seager beat Jos Barker with a brilliant first-time strike from the edge of the box. Amid continued pressure, the Swans earned the chance to retake the lead from 12 yards when Thabo Kuaho was brought down in the box following some nice interplay with debutant Kai Jennings. Rogalski stepped up and calmy slotted it away. The Hawks brought themselves level for the second time in bizarre circumstances when a rare moment of miscommunication between Junior Eccleston and Jos Barker ended in an own goal.
After an action-packed first half, the tempo died down a little but both sides continued to fight for a winner. As the clock hit the 90th minute, Jennings saw a shot blocked before Rogalski had two attempts thwarted. The ball eventually fell kindly for Elliot Bolton to take a touch before unleashing an effort into the bottom corner to win it for the Swans.
Chertsey Town have been in poor form as of late, losing their last four games. The Curfews succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Hungerford Town in the latest game and that saw them drop to 17th in the table.
The Swans faced Chertsey at the Hub back in August and marked the bank holiday Monday with a 3-2 win. Adam Mekki opened the scoring only for a turnaround by the Curfews put them 2-1 up with 25 minutes to play. Anis Nuur grabbed an equaliser for the Swans from the spot, before Dawid Rogalski continued his outstanding early-season form with a late winner.
Billy Rowley will be eager for his side to continue their unbeaten start to 2025 with another big three points in a local derby. Presented with the chance to solidify a top 5 spot in the race for the play-offs, a win will be crucial for the Swans tonight:
Head-to-head
The history between these two sides lives up to the hype of the rivalry. The Swans have faced Chertsey Town in 30 matches, winning 22 of them. The Curfews have been victorious in just five with three games finishing as draws. Walton & Hersham’s last visit to Chertsey’s home ground Alwyns Lane in March 2023 saw them run out 5-2 victors. Eddie Simon netted the second of his record-breaking four consecutive hat-tricks in the dominant win.
