Tuesday 12th August 2025.                             Southern League, Premier Division South.

Hanwell Town 1 Walton & Hersham 0.

Swans came away pointless for the first time in three visits to Hanwell Town, as they never really settled to any sort of rhythm against an uncompromising home side. The match was a messy affair, with constant breaks in play as, having taken a 24th minute lead, home players persistently required treatment. A sending-off reduced Hanwell to ten men midway through the second-half, but despite applying constant pressure Swans could not make a breakthrough, with home goalkeeper Sam Beasant having an excellent game.
There were two changes to the Swans’ starting line-up from the win against Plymouth Parkway. Lucas Defise came in for Joey Jones, who was unavailable to start, so was named amongst the substitutes, while Diamond Edwards made his full debut in place of Anis Nuur.
Swans were put under early pressure, and the home side had early penalty claims rejected when Alfie Pendlebury went down in the box after Taylor Miles’ free-kick from deep on the left led to the ball being crossed in from the right. Hanwell then forced two corners in succession on the left.
Swans posed their first threat when keeper Jos Barker’s throw out sent Mason Obeng on a fine run down the left, but after cutting inside he shot low and wide of the left-post from 30 yards.
Hanwell had a great chance to take the lead when a ball down the left sent Jordy Mongoy clear, and although looking offside he was allowed to get into the box, but he sent a low shot wide of the far-post.
Swans created their best opening with 20 minutes played when Thabo Kuaho clipped a fine ball through to Dawid Rogalski in the left of the box, but after sidestepping Harry Seabrook his low shot brought a good save from Beasant down at his right post.
Mongoy’s left-side runs continued to cause problems for Swans, and he forced another corner, but Miles’ kick was well cut out by Barker.
Hanwell took the lead after 24 minutes, with Mongoy again involved. A Swans’ attack was broken up, and when Seth Patrick picked out Mongoy on the left with a cross-field ball, he was allowed to drive to the byeline. Mongoy hung a fine cross to the edge of the 6 yard-box for Pendlebury to send a glancing header into the far corner.
Barker was soon having to cut out a far-post header when Miles delivered a free-kick from deep on the left.
Swans put together their best move so far, and Edwards’ ball down the right got Jack Wood into the box, but after cutting back onto his left foot his shot was straight at Beasant at his near-post. Wood immediately went closer to equalising when Defise found him on the edge of the box. Wood superbly spun past Roberto Nditi to open up a clear chance, but his left-foot shot was turned wide of his right post by a terrific point-blank save from Beasant.
Swans were immediately grateful to their own keeper Barker for preventing them from falling further behind. Miles delivered a corner from the left, leading to Dan Carr getting in a shot from inside the 6 yard-box, but Barker somehow blocked the ball round the left-post. Miles’ second corner then sent the ball across the goal-face.
Edwards got into the right of the box for Swans, but after cutting inside his low shot was again straight at Beasant.
With just under ten minutes left to the break Hanwell’s Patrick was shown the first yellow card of the evening for a late challenge on Edwards. It was not long before Patrick was bringing down Wood with a tackle considerably worse than his previous, but the referee decided a talking-to was sufficient. With stoppage-time being played Hanwell decided it was prudent to substitute their No.7.
Swans made a change of their own for the second-half, with Jones replacing Ethan Light, and they attacked straight from the restart, Wood driving into the box and the ball being blocked on the line. They continued to put the home defence under more pressure, but failed to create much in the way of openings, and 20 minutes into the half they replaced Edwarda with Nuur.
The home side were immediately reduced to ten men when Joe Wilson was shown a straight red card for a shocking over-the-top challenge on Jones.
A fine move by Swans led to Johl Powell getting in on the left, but the angle became too tight, and his cross went over. Danylo Hubynets then came on for Kuaho as Swans threw everything into finding an equaliser, as the home side got men behind the ball. With five minutes of normal-time remaining they went desperately close when Wood forced a corner on the right, and Rogalski was in the left of the 6 yard-box to get in a powerful header that rattled the far-post. Jones then found Defise on the right, and he got into the box, but after sidestepping Carr his shot was taken by Beasant high up on his line. With stoppage-time being played Hubynets got into the left of the 6 yard-box to hook in a shot that Beasant parried, before just preventing the ball crossing the line. There were then determined claims by the Swans’ players that the ball had been handled in the build-up. Jones then set up Elliott Bolton 5 yards outside the box on the right, and he drove in a low shot that clipped the outside of the far-post. There was one last chance to rescue a point, but Rogalski volleyed wide following a good run by Defise on the right.
