Walton & Hersham were pleased to have hosted a community event with PA Housing on Thursday 28th August.

A number of children from the local area were invited to the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub to take part in several activities, including training on the main pitch.

Women’s First Team player Megan Young aided in organising the event and was present to offer coaching to the attendees along with multiple teammates.

Defender Lia Davies was among those assisting the session and on being part of the event said: “Walton is obviously a very family-based club and I think this is a good demonstration of that. As a player, I want to help out with that as much as I can.”

Following the session, Chief Executive Officer Joe Brine gave a tour to those in attendance, showing them all areas of the club, including offering a glimpse of the Surrey Senior Cup trophy we lifted in May.

Several players from our Men’s First Team then joined the event to offer a meet-and-greet, allowing the opportunity for guests to get photos and signatures, and talk about the club.

Academy graduate Thabo Kuaho said: “I came through the Walton academy and I’m a local boy so I’m really around the community.

“I believe something like this is very good for community building, getting to know all the kids in the area, and show that you can bond through football, both on and off the pitch.”

Monica Harding, Member of Parliament for Esher & Walton, was also in attendance and said: “Walton & Hersham are doing such a fantastic thing for the community, bringing these kids down and getting them to meet the players.

“There’s such an enthusiasm and everyone is so joyous about the event. Well done to everyone involved.”

We were delighted to have hosted the event and look forward to offering similar opportunities in the future.
