The Swans continued their winning form on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 2-0 victory over South London-based AFC Croydon Athletic. Billy Rowley’s side will be looking to continue their strong form against Leatherhead, as the Swans’ opening league game away to AFC Totton rapidly moves into view.

First-half goals from a trialist and Anis Nuur were enough for the Swans to see off their Isthmian South East division opponents, with the Swans coming close to scoring more on a number of occasions throughout the match. The latter also stood in as skipper for newly appointed club captain Joey Jones, who started the game from the bench.

Following on from the midweek victory, Walton & Hersham have made another addition to their ranks in the form of ex-Wimbledon midfielder Elliott Bolton, after a number of impressive performances as a trialist throughout pre-season. Elliott has family connections to the Swans, with his brother Flynn also playing for the club in the 22/23 season.

Leatherhead have enjoyed a mixed bag in pre-season so far, emerging victorious in three of their six pre-season matches. The Tanners secured a 3-1 victory away to Corinthian Casuals in their latest outing, and will no doubt be looking to continue the momentum with a win against their Southern League opponents.

Billy Rowley will be keen for his Swans side to cap off an impressive pre-season with a win on Saturday, as he goes toe-to-toe with ex-Arsenal midfielder Ian Selley in the Tanners’ dugout.

Head-to-head
Walton & Hersham and Leatherhead have met one another no fewer than 90 times in their histories – the most times the Swans have faced any single opponent. The first encounter between the two sides came in the Surrey Senior Cup in the 1946-47 season, with both teams meeting each other a further 89 times in nine different competitions in the decades proceeding.

The two Surrey sides last faced off in the 2022-23 season, in which they met three times. The Swans were victorious 3-1 in a midweek FA Trophy tie in September, while both sides secured a 2-0 league victory at the others’ ground, with the Tanners last emerging victorious on Boxing Day 2022 courtesy of a Kenny Beaney double from the penalty spot.
