The Swans host Winchester City on Saturday afternoon as they look to maintain their winning form, after their recent scheduled trip to Swindon Supermarine was postponed for the second time due to a waterlogged pitch.
In their most recent outing last weekend, the Swans came away from Hampshire with a 2-0 win, defeating Gosport Borough for the first time ever. After a gritty first half, they took the lead through Johl Powell just minutes after the break. Dawid Rogalski did brilliantly to take a long ball down, before playing the number ten through on goal for him to coolly slot past the ‘keeper. Gosport fought hard to find an equaliser but couldn’t break through a resilient Swans defence, before Powell grabbed his second to seal the deal in stoppage time. The midfielder won back possession before charging towards goal, emphatically smashing into the net from the edge of the box
Winchester have enjoyed a mixed season so far, and are currently 14th in the Southern League Premier Division South. The Citizens bounced back from back-to-back defeats in their last game to beat the Swans’ intended Tuesday opponents Swindon Supermarine 1-0.
It was the Citizens who came out on top in this season’s first meeting between these two sides, winning 2-1 at the Charters Community Stadium back in October. The Swans took an early lead through Nana Owusu, and seemed nailed on for all three points after a dominant first half, but second-half goals from Tommy Wright and Simba Mlambo completed a dramatic turnaround for the hosts.
Billy Rowley will be eager for his side to build on their previous win with another against Winchester City, in order to keep significant pressure on in the race for a play-off spot.
Head-to-head
This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides, with the first two encounters coming last season. The Swans similarly succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in Hampshire last season, but got their revenge with a 3-1 win in the return fixture.
