Walton & Hersham FC – Club Code of Conduct

  1. Introduction

Walton & Hersham FC (“the Club”) is committed to fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for all players, coaches, staff, parents, and supporters. This Code of Conduct sets the expectations for all individuals associated with the Club to ensure that the highest standards of behaviour and professionalism are upheld.

Our mission is to promote football excellence, teamwork, integrity, and respect within a competitive yet supportive environment. The Club operates in line with the values upheld by other high-level football clubs, ensuring fairness, respect, and inclusivity at all levels.

  1. Expected Behaviour

All players, coaches, officials, parents, and supporters are expected to:

  • Demonstrate respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, and supporters at all times.
  • Uphold the good name of Walton & Hersham FC in all actions on and off the field.
  • Play fairly and uphold the principles of fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship.
  • Follow the guidance and decisions of Club officials and coaching staff.
  • Represent the Club with pride, both on and off the pitch.
  1. Matchday & Training Conduct

For Players (Youth & Adult)

  • Play to the best of their ability and for the benefit of the team.
  • Arrive on time for training and matches, properly equipped and prepared.
  • Respect teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, and spectators.
  • Play by the rules and respect the referee’s decisions.
  • Be gracious in victory and defeat – shake hands with opponents and referees at the end of each game.
  • Listen and respond to what coaches and team managers advise.
  • Speak to someone they trust or the Club Welfare Officer if they have concerns.
  1. Social Media & Public Representation
  • Any social media activity involving the Club must be respectful and align with the Club’s values.
  • Players, staff, and supporters must not post discriminatory, offensive, or inappropriate content.
  • Any communication regarding team matters should be done through appropriate club channels.
  • Misuse of social media that brings the Club into disrepute may result in disciplinary action.
  1. Equality & Inclusion
  • The Club is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse environment where all individuals are treated fairly, regardless of race, gender, religion, ability, or background.
  • Discrimination, bullying, or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.
  • Players and staff are expected to promote equality and respect within the football community.
  1. Safeguarding & Welfare
  • The safety and well-being of all players, especially youth members, is a top priority.
  • The Club follows FA safeguarding policies and requires all coaches and staff to adhere to safeguarding best practices.
  • Any safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately to the designated Club Welfare Officer.
  1. Conduct for Coaches, Team Managers & Club Officials
  • Use their position to set a positive example for young players.
  • Show respect to all involved in the game, including referees, opposition teams, coaches, and spectators.
  • Adhere to the laws and spirit of the game while promoting fair play.
  • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive behaviour.
  • Prioritise the well-being, safety, and enjoyment of each player over winning.
  • Encourage players to accept responsibility for their behaviour and performance.
  • Cooperate fully with medical professionals and safeguarding officers to protect player welfare.
  1. Spectators’ Code of Conduct
  • Remember that children play for FUN.
  • Applaud effort and good play, regardless of the team.
  • Respect the referee’s decisions, even when disagreeing.
  • Support players positively and avoid criticism.
  • Never engage in offensive, insulting, or abusive behaviour.
  • Let the coach do their job and avoid confusing players with instructions.
  • Stay behind designated touchline areas and follow matchday guidelines.
  1. Disciplinary Actions

If any individual fails to follow this Code of Conduct, the Club may enforce one or more of the following actions:

  • Requirement to apologize to affected parties (teammates, opponents, referees, coaches, etc.).
  • Formal warnings from coaches or the Club Board.
  • Suspension from training, matches, or Club activities.
  • Fines imposed by the FA/County FA, to be paid by the responsible individual.
  • Dismissal from the Club in severe cases.

In addition, The FA or County FA may impose further fines or suspensions on the Club, which will be the responsibility of the offending individual(s) to pay.

  1. Implementation & Review
  • This Code of Conduct applies to all teams, including the Men’s Senior Team, Reserve Team (U23s), Women’s Senior Team, U18s (Isthmian Youth League, Allied Counties League, and Combined Counties League), and Boys’ U13 & U14 teams.
  • The Club reserves the right to review and update this Code of Conduct as necessary to maintain high standards of behaviour and professionalism.

By being a part of Walton & Hersham FC, all players, coaches, parents, and supporters agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive footballing environment.
